Adesua Etomi marked her birthday not just with celebration but with a deeply personal reflection on a year that nearly broke her. The Nollywood star, known for her elegance and strength, opened up about her harrowing journey through illness, emotional turmoil, and life-altering moments.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, she revealed her battle with hyperemesis, a severe pregnancy complication that left her hospitalized for months. Just as she fought to regain her strength, another challenge surfaced when her husband, Banky W, needed surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

Balancing her own fragile health while supporting her husband through his medical ordeal pushed her to limits she never imagined. Then came another curveball when an emergency C-section made the past months feel like an endless test of endurance.

Despite it all, she clung to faith, love, and an unwavering support system. She expressed immense gratitude to the medical teams in Lagos and Washington D.C. for their role in her survival. Most of all, she paid tribute to Banky W, her rock through the storm.

Sharing her emotions, she wrote:

“IT’S MY BIRTHDAYYYYY!!! Long post alert.

2024 really tried to take the wind out of my sail, so I am so grateful to be here celebrating my life and God’s faithfulness.

From being ill for months with hyperemesis (if you’re going through this, I see you. It’s not in your head. You are as ill as you feel & think you are, and yes, you need help), to being admitted to hospital, to finding out the love of my life needed another surgery to remove a cancerous tumor while being sick and pregnant, to ending up with an emergency C-section.

I want to thank all the doctors who looked after me in Lagos, Nigeria, and the team in Washington DC that pretty much saved my life.

I also want to thank God for my incredible husband. Banky, I love you to life.

I also want to thank everyone who gave me grace in 2024, especially those who didn’t know what I was going through. I know I missed a lot.

My village people are incredible. God has used this season to stretch me and show me that I am capable of much more than I ever realized.”**

Her words painted a picture of both suffering and resilience. For Adesua, 2024 wasn’t just a year of trials. It was a testament to her strength, her faith, and the love that held her together when everything else seemed to fall apart.
