All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart, Adeyeye Mobolaji, has congratulated Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his emergence as the consensus candidate of the party for the forthcoming 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.
Mobolaji described Oyebanji’s endorsement as a reflection of the governor’s “unifying leadership, people-centred governance and unwavering commitment to the progress of Ekiti State,” noting that the consensus decision underscores the governor’s broad acceptance across political structures within the party.
According to official communication from the APC National Headquarters to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the party adopted the consensus mode following the voluntary withdrawal of Mrs Atinuke Oluremi Omolayo, the only other cleared aspirant for the ticket. In her withdrawal letter, Mrs Omolayo endorsed Governor Oyebanji as the consensus candidate, pledging her full support for his re-election bid.
Reacting to the development, Adeyeye Mobolaji praised the maturity demonstrated by all stakeholders, commending Mrs Omolayo’s statesmanship and the party’s respect for due process as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2022.
“The decision of our party to rally behind Governor Oyebanji is a testament to the trust he has earned through visible development, inclusiveness and integrity in governance. Ekiti is on a path of sustained growth, and continuity is key to consolidating on these gains,” Mobolaji said.
He further expressed confidence that the upcoming Nomination Congress, slated for 27 October 2025 at the Ekiti State Pavilion, would formally affirm Oyebanji’s candidacy and strengthen party unity ahead of the polls.
Mobolaji, a prominent figure within the APC in Ekiti, reaffirmed his commitment to mobilising grassroots support for the governor’s re-election campaign, emphasising that “this victory is not just for the APC but for every Ekiti citizen who desires progress anchored on stability and good governance.”
The APC’s adoption of the consensus approach aligns with Sections 84(9) and 84(11) of the Electoral Act 2022, which provide for the withdrawal and endorsement process in the nomination of a sole aspirant.
Governor Oyebanji’s emergence as the consensus candidate effectively positions him as the flagbearer of the ruling party, APC, ahead of the 2026 governorship election, expected to be one of the most closely watched in the South-West region.
