An alumnus of Ekiti State University, Mr Oluwatosin Sunday Ajayi has disbursed ₦4.4 million in direct cash support to 220 widows in Gboyin-Ayekire Local Government Area of Ekiti State, in what beneficiaries described as timely relief amid rising economic pressure.
Mr Oluwatosin Sunday Ajayi, popularly known as ASO, presented ₦20,000 each to 20 widows across the 11 wards in the council area, bringing the total beneficiaries to 220. The brief ceremony drew party leaders, community figures and residents who gathered to witness the distribution.
Mr Oluwatosin said he funded the intervention to cushion hardship among vulnerable women struggling to sustain small businesses and households.
“I see what many of these women go through daily. This support is modest, but it can help stabilise a trade, restock goods, or settle urgent needs,” he said.
He urged other financially able individuals to invest in people within their communities rather than wait for government action alone. He also said the initiative complements the social support efforts of Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, particularly for the elderly and widows.
The Director-General of the Ekiti State Bureau of Local Content, Mr Olalekan Ijidale, commended the gesture and described it as consistent with the governor’s grassroots development drive. He said private interventions such as this deepen social impact at the local level.
The APC Chairman in Gboyin-Ayekire Local Government, Pastor Olatokunbo Adeyeye, praised Mr Oluwatosin for what he called a practical show of compassion. He noted that direct financial support often makes quicker impact than symbolic donations.
For many beneficiaries, the cash injection means immediate business revival. Mrs Victoria Akinola said she would use the money to buy food items for resale. Mrs Oluwalusi Ajayi said the support would help her expand her petty trading.
“We did not expect this. It will go straight into our businesses,” Mrs Akinola said.
The event ended with prayers for the donor and calls for sustained community-led empowerment across the council area.
