Ekiti lawmaker and former House of Representatives member, Hon. Ibraheem Kunle Olarewaju, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for nominating General Christopher Gwabin Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence.

Describing the appointment as “timely and strategic,” Olarewaju said the decision underscores the President’s commitment to strengthening the country’s defence apparatus amid mounting security challenges. “General Musa is a seasoned military officer with a proven record of professionalism, discipline and strategic foresight. His leadership will significantly bolster Nigeria’s security operations,” Olarewaju added.

He highlighted General Musa’s extensive experience in the armed forces as a key asset in designing robust strategies to tackle insurgency, banditry and other security threats across the country. Olarewaju urged the Senate to fast-track confirmation, stressing that swift approval would enable the new minister to immediately begin critical interventions.

The lawmaker also commended Tinubu for prioritising merit and competence in appointing key officials, noting that leaders with proven expertise signal a serious approach to governance and national development.

President Tinubu had formally forwarded General Musa’s nomination to the Senate as the successor to Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, who recently resigned. The nomination comes at a crucial time when Nigeria grapples with complex security challenges demanding decisive leadership and innovative strategies.

Olarewaju concluded by expressing full support for the nomination, expressing hope that General Musa’s tenure would usher in a new era of professionalism, accountability and results-driven leadership in Nigeria’s defence sector.
