Hon. Ibrahim Kunle Olarewaju, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on National Assembly Matters, has commended Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji over the commencement of commercial flight operations at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Airport, describing the development as a defining moment for the state.
Hon. Olarewaju said the inauguration of commercial flights confirms the airport’s readiness to serve as a major economic gateway, opening Ekiti to new opportunities in trade, investment, tourism and agro allied exports. He noted that feedback from aviation professionals and business leaders who have used the facility points to its world class standard and operational strength.
He credited Governor Oyebanji for providing consistent leadership and ensuring the completion of a project he described as critical to Ekiti’s long term economic relevance. According to him, the airport stands as a clear example of what continuity and focused governance can deliver.
The presidential aide stressed the strategic importance of the airport’s location, citing its proximity to key institutions including Afe Babalola University, the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, the Federal University Oye Ekiti and Ekiti State University. He said this positions the state as a growing centre for academic exchange, medical tourism and knowledge driven development.
Hon. Olarewaju congratulated the people of Ekiti, urging them to see the airport as a collective asset that belongs to every citizen. He said the project will create jobs, attract investors and strengthen the state’s economy if properly supported and protected.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Ekiti’s development efforts, as well as the roles played by previous administrations and key stakeholders who laid the foundation for the airport.
According to Hon. Olarewaju, the commencement of commercial flights marks more than the opening of an airport; it signals Ekiti’s readiness to take its place in Nigeria’s economic future.
