In a historic and celebratory moment for Nigeria’s legal profession, Distinguished Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele (MOB) has been conferred with the prestigious title of Life Bencher. This recognition, reserved for outstanding legal professionals, underscores MOB’s enduring contributions to justice, leadership, and national development.

Kolawole Davidson Akinlayo, Member of the House of Representatives (Ekiti North Federal Constituency II), praised MOB’s unwavering dedication to the legal profession and public service. Through his Special Adviser on Media and Communication, Mr. Babatope Ibitola, Hon. Akinlayo described the achievement as a fitting reward for MOB’s exemplary career and selfless service to the nation.

Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele Born on July 29, 1963, in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State, MOB’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. After earning degrees from Obafemi Awolowo University, the University of Benin, and Franklin Pierce University, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and the New York Bar in 1999. His legal prowess shone brightly as part of Chief G.O.K. Ajayi’s defense team during the Moshood Abiola treason trial.
Sen. Bamidele’s political career is equally illustrious. Currently serving as the Majority Leader of the Nigerian Senate since 2023, he has represented Ekiti Central Senatorial District since 2019. He has held numerous impactful roles, including Lagos State Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Social Development, and later, Commissioner for Information and Strategy. His efforts in governance have positively transformed lives and communities across the nation.
Attaining the revered title of Life Bencher marks a pinnacle in MOB’s career, adding to a long list of accolades, including the national honor of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON), conferred on him in 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
