Appointed by Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, Akinlayo, who represents Ekiti North Federal Constituency II at the House of Representatives, now leads a council of distinguished sports advocates, including Patron Mr. Aisida Sola, members Pastor Omogeye Peter, Otunba Rotimi Oluwatayo, Mr. Abiodun Aina Oluwadare, Dr. Adeola Sola, and Secretary Mrs. Adebusuyi R.F.

Expressing deep gratitude for the trust placed in him, Akinlayo declared his unwavering commitment to revitalizing table tennis in Ekiti State. His passion was evident as he outlined an ambitious vision that tackles the sport’s most pressing challenges—ranging from inadequate infrastructure to the absence of grassroots programs.

“This is more than an appointment; it is a call to action. Ekiti has incredible potential in table tennis, and we must create the right environment to nurture and showcase our talents,” Akinlayo stated emphatically.

Determined to hit the ground running, he pledged ₦5 million of his personal funds to jumpstart the council’s initiatives. His blueprint for progress includes upgrading training facilities, launching grassroots talent discovery programs, securing sponsorships, organizing competitive championships, empowering coaches, and fostering community engagement through awareness campaigns.

Beyond rhetoric, Akinlayo’s immediate financial commitment signals a shift from mere policy discussions to tangible action. His leadership is expected to usher in a new era where young athletes in Ekiti have the resources and exposure needed to compete at national and international levels.

According to Mr. Tope Ibitola, the Special Adviser on Media and Strategic Communications to the Honourable Member of the House of Representatives, Ekiti North Constituency 2,  this appointment marks a major turning point in Ekiti’s sports sector. He emphasized that Akinlayo’s dedication and proactive approach would not only elevate table tennis but also inspire a broader movement toward sports excellence in the state.

With sports enthusiasts and stakeholders keenly watching, Akinlayo’s tenure holds the promise of transformation. His blend of political influence and genuine passion for development could be the catalyst that propels Ekiti State into the limelight of Nigeria’s table tennis scene.
