Obasanjo Unveils Two New Books as He Marks 88th Birthday in Grand Style

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo is set to mark his 88th birthday today with the public unveiling of two new books in Abeokuta, Ogun State. Titled Lest We Forget: Slavery, Slave Trade, Emancipation and Reparation and Nigeria: Past and the Future, Obasanjo’s latest works delve into the nation’s historical struggles and the path ahead. His Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, described the book presentation as a key highlight of the birthday celebrations, promising a blend of intellectual discourse and cultural performances.

The Director-General of the Nigerian Institute for International Affairs (NIIA), Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, will deliver the keynote address, Echoes of the Past, Visions of the Future: Reflections on Slavery and Colonisation, and Nigeria’s Journey Towards a Promising Future. His lecture is expected to shed light on Africa’s complex history and chart a course for its renaissance.

The ceremony, which will feature traditional music, drama, and goodwill messages, will be graced by distinguished guests, including His Majesty, King Mswati III of Eswatini, who will serve as the Royal Father of the Day.
