The New Broom Movement Endorses Oyebanji, Launches Grassroots Drive Ahead of APC Primary

The New Broom Movement, a pro-democracy group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared full support for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji’s second term bid, unveiling a grassroots mobilisation plan ahead of the party’s governorship primary in Ekiti State.

At a strategic meeting of local government coordinators in Ado-Ekiti, the group resolved to back Oyebanji, popularly known as BAO, citing his “Omoluabi” leadership style defined by humility, integrity, respect for party structures, and accessibility to ordinary members. The coordinators argued that his focus on continuity and inclusive development has stabilised governance in Ekiti, making him the party’s best choice for unity and sustained progress.

To reinforce its endorsement, the movement rolled out an ambitious structure to energise APC members across all levels of the state. It announced the creation of a dedicated call centre that will serve as a hub for information sharing, mobilisation, and communication between the party and its members. The centre, according to the organisers, will ensure no member is left behind in the build-up to the election, bridging the gap between the leadership and the grassroots.

In addition, ward sensitisation teams are being deployed across all 177 wards in Ekiti State to spread the message of party unity and continuity while gathering feedback from members on local concerns. At the local government level, coordinating and monitoring teams will provide oversight, align activities with the party’s objectives, and track mobilisation progress.

The movement also revealed that a Situation Room will be set up in Ado-Ekiti to serve as the nerve centre of operations. The Situation Room will provide real-time monitoring and coordination, ensuring that the mobilisation structure works seamlessly from the ward to the state capital.

Speaking after the endorsement, stakeholders of The New Broom Movement emphasised that winning elections requires more than strong candidates; it demands a united, informed, and active party base. They argued that Oyebanji has laid a solid foundation for development in Ekiti and should be allowed to consolidate those gains rather than disrupt the continuity of governance.

Christopher Adeosun, Head of Media and Publicity for the movement, said the endorsement was a reflection of the collective voice of APC stakeholders at the grassroots, not just a decision imposed from above. He stressed that stability, values-driven leadership, and sustained governance remain central to the interests of both the APC and the people of Ekiti State.

Party members were also urged to stay proactive, engaged, and united ahead of the governorship primary. The movement maintained that only by consolidating the gains of Oyebanji’s administration and standing together can the APC ensure both electoral victory and long-term stability for the state.

With the primary drawing closer, the endorsement by The New Broom Movement adds significant momentum to Governor Oyebanji’s re-election campaign, reinforcing his standing as the preferred candidate within party structures at the grassroots.
