Adamawa APC Elders Back Tinubu, Endorse Galadima for 2027 Polls

The Adamawa State Progressive Elders Council (APEC) has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and endorsed Alhaji Tijjani Ahmed Galadima as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Adamawa State.

The decision emerged on Tuesday after a high-level meeting of the council at the Government House in Yola, where senior APC figures gathered to chart the party’s strategy ahead of the next general elections.

The meeting, chaired by retired Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa, drew an array of influential party leaders, including former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; former Governor Bala James Nggilari; former Senator Abubakar H. Girei; and elder statesman Dahiru Bobbo.

Others in attendance included Mrs Olvadi Bema Madayi, former Senators Bello Tukur, Binta Masi Garba and Muhammed MoAllahyidi, as well as former ambassadors Fatima Balla Abubakar and Kevin Peter.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting, the council reaffirmed its loyalty to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, describing him as the leader of the APC in Adamawa and commending his efforts towards party unity.

The elders also thanked Mr Fintiri for making the Government House available for the meeting and mandated their chairman to engage the governor ahead of the council’s next plenary session.

Beyond political endorsements, the council unveiled an ambitious campaign blueprint for 2027. It proposed the establishment of an all-inclusive campaign council to be headed by Governor Fintiri and tasked with delivering victory for President Tinubu and Mr Galadima.

The council said it would conduct a scientific survey to assess the party’s strength across the state and shape its campaign strategy around the concerns of voters.

Members also pledged to serve as grassroots mobilisation agents by engaging directly with communities, recruiting new party members and driving voter registration efforts across the state.

The meeting also addressed growing concerns over divisions within the party following recent nomination processes.

Mr Marwa said reconciliation efforts had already begun and were producing encouraging results, adding that Governor Fintiri remained central to the push to reunite aggrieved party members.

“The meeting ended with a steadfast commitment to ensuring that the APC is strengthened in Adamawa State through unwavering unity and cohesion,” Ahmad Sajoh, the council’s head of media and publicity, said in a statement.

Tuesday’s meeting signals the opening phase of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 elections in Adamawa, with the party’s elders positioning themselves not merely as advisers but as key players in shaping the contest from the grassroots to the national stage.
