Adamawa Progressive Elders Council has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office, declaring its full backing for his re-election bid in the 2027 general elections at a high-level meeting in Yola on Sunday.
The endorsement emerged from a closed-door session held at the Muna Hotel, where senior and influential figures of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State converged to chart the party’s political direction ahead of the next election cycle. The meeting brought together former governors, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, serving and former ministers, and seasoned legislators, signalling a show of strength within the party’s old guard.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the Council said its decision to back Mr Tinubu rested on the need for unity within the APC and the consolidation of political forces in Adamawa. The group, set up following the recommendations of the APC Reconciliation Committee, said it would focus on resolving lingering internal disputes and mobilising party structures to secure victory for the president and all APC candidates in 2027.
The meeting also drew momentum from a goodwill message sent by the APC leader in the state, conveyed through the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha. Party leaders described the message as a reassurance of continued engagement between the national leadership and the Adamawa chapter of the party.
Beyond the presidential endorsement, the elders praised Mr Tinubu for appointing prominent Adamawa figures into key federal positions, including the party’s state leader. They announced plans to organise a grand rally and reception for all federal appointees from the state as a public show of appreciation to the president.
Determined to strengthen the party from the ground up, the Council resolved to extend its reconciliation and mobilisation efforts to local government and ward levels. The move aims to identify and resolve grassroots disputes early, before they undermine party cohesion.
The elders also reaffirmed an internal rule barring members who intend to contest elective offices from retaining their positions within the Council, a measure they said would preserve neutrality and credibility in its mediation role.
To drive its agenda, the Council announced the formation of four committees to oversee mobilisation, conflict resolution, finance, and media engagement. The leadership pledged loyalty to the APC and vowed to follow strict timelines to deliver electoral success for the party in Adamawa.
The communique was signed by Senator Abubakar Halilu Girei, vice chairman of the Council, and Mrs Olvadi Bema Madayi, its secretary.
