BBNaija in Trouble as Lawyer Petitions NBC Over ‘Dirty Content’ – Instablog

Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) is facing fresh controversy as a Nigerian lawyer, Maduabuchi Idam, has petitioned the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), demanding an immediate ban or strict regulation of the show over what he described as “dirty, indecent and offensive” content.

According to Instablog9ja, Idam submitted a formal petition to the NBC’s Director-General, warning that if the Commission fails to act within 30 days, he will take legal action.

He accused BBNaija of airing sexual and inappropriate content not just on cable TV but also on the verified social media platforms of the organisers, saying the clips circulate freely online and are easily accessible to children and underage viewers.

“The show is not only on national TV, its offensive scenes are proudly shared by the organisers online, completely ignoring public morality,” he stated.

He questioned why NBC, which previously banned music videos from popular artistes like Olamide and Wizkid over similar concerns, has turned a blind eye to BBNaija’s ongoing broadcast.

While the show is rated 18+, Idam argued the age rating means nothing when the content is all over TikTok, Instagram, and X, reaching the general public without control. He added that BBNaija adds no educational or cultural value and instead promotes behaviour that weakens public decency.

He called on NBC to move the show to private, heavily restricted adult channels and prohibit the release of explicit clips online by the host company.

“Nigeria is already battling insecurity and moral decay. This show is making it worse,” he warned.

As of now, NBC has not responded publicly to the petition.
