In a groundbreaking development, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has officially announced a massive increment in corps members’ monthly allowance from N33,000 to N77,000, set to take effect from February 2025.

Brigadier General Yushau Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC, made the revelation on Thursday while addressing the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream II corps members in Katsina. He confirmed that the increase has been fully captured in the 2025 Federal Government budget, awaiting implementation next month.

“This month (January) has already ended, but once the budget is passed, corps members will start receiving N77,000 instead of the usual N33,000,” Ahmed stated.

This significant pay raise marks a historic milestone in Nigeria’s youth empowerment efforts. The new stipend more than doubles the previous allowance and is expected to boost morale, financial stability, and economic participation among corps members.

Ahmed emphasized that the federal government remains fully committed to corps members’ welfare and security, reassuring them that they will not be posted to high-risk or conflict-prone areas during their service year.

“We will not send our corps members to places with security threats. Wherever they are deployed, they should rest assured that it is safe and secured for them to serve,” he added.

This bold move is expected to ease the financial burdens faced by many corps members while also injecting fresh spending power into Nigeria’s economy. Analysts suggest that the allowance hike could stimulate local businesses, improve living conditions for young graduates, and encourage more youths to embrace national service.

With the new allowance kicking off in just a few weeks, corps members across the country are set to experience one of the biggest financial boosts in NYSC history.
