Daddy Freeze on Peter Obi has sparked debate after the media personality questioned the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s modest public image while reacting to reports that his wife was seen carrying a luxury Hermès bag worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Daddy Freeze said he had no issue with Peter Obi’s wife owning or carrying an expensive luxury bag, arguing that the former Anambra State governor had accumulated wealth before entering public office.
“I have no problem with Peter Obi’s wife carrying a luxury bag. Her husband is a billionaire. He was before he came into government,” he said.
However, Daddy Freeze said his concern was with the image Peter Obi presents to the public, particularly his frequent references to personal simplicity and modest living.
“The only problem I have with him is he says he only has one shoe and one watch, but when you put yourself in a certain light, and things around you don’t seem to add to that light, there is a problem,” he said.
The media personality, however, maintained that he considers Peter Obi an honest and humble politician.
“He is honest and humble, but are people around him as prudent as he is?” Daddy Freeze asked.
His comments have added another layer to the conversation surrounding Peter Obi’s public image, wealth and lifestyle.
Peter Obi has built a reputation around frugality and regularly speaks about cutting the cost of governance and reducing public spending. His supporters often point to his lifestyle as evidence of his approach to public service.
