Otunba Oluwadare Owolabi has secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) nomination form for the Ekiti North senatorial seat, formally declaring his intention to join the race ahead of the next election cycle.
Otunba Owolabi, popularly known as Ìràwò Òwúrò, confirmed his entry shortly after completing the process. He told journalists that Ekiti North can no longer afford what he described as weak and distant representation at the national level, stressing that the district needs a voice that is both visible and effective.
He argued that Ekiti North once held a strong position in legislative influence and development advocacy but has gradually lost that edge. According to him, restoring that standing requires more than political presence; it demands consistent engagement, strategic thinking, and the ability to attract meaningful projects that impact everyday life across the district.
Otunba Owolabi placed youth development at the centre of his campaign. He said young people across the five local government areas face shrinking opportunities despite their potential. He outlined plans to drive job creation through partnerships, support entrepreneurship with access to funding and mentorship, and introduce capacity-building programmes that align with current economic realities.
He also signalled a grassroots approach to representation. Otunba Owolabi said he intends to work closely with stakeholders across Ikole, Oye, Ido/Osi, Moba, and Ilejemeje, ensuring that policies and interventions reflect the specific needs of each community rather than broad, one-size-fits-all agendas.
Beyond policy, he emphasised accessibility and accountability. He said constituents deserve a representative who listens, communicates regularly, and remains present beyond election cycles. He added that trust in leadership can only grow when people see clear, measurable results tied to promises made.
His move has already begun to stir conversations within political circles and among residents of the district. Supporters describe his candidacy as a chance to reset priorities and bring renewed focus to development. Observers, however, say the contest will test both his message and his ability to build strong support within the APC structure and across the wider electorate.
